What is CoCollage?
CoCollage is a shared digital display for your community. It’s like a message board, slide show, and mini art gallery all rolled into one, full of stuff shared by you and the people around you. CoCollage is more than just the screen on the wall – the website provides a way to learn more about what you see on screen, and connect with the people you share a physical space with. Use the site to upload photos and quotes, tap into your existing albums on Flickr and Facebook, browse other members’ shared items, and comment and vote. You can even instant-message the screen!
Where is it?
The CoCollage display screen is designed to be shared by the people a particular place. Add stuff, rate and comment online; watch as the display in the physical space reflects these actions.
Who can join in?
Anyone in the café – customers, baristas, guest performers.
^ topHow do I join?
How do I share stuff?
When you join your first assignment is to add some things to let people get a picture of who you are. Use images and text to really join the community space.
Adding images
To add an image visit My Profile or My Stuff and click the upload link on the right sidebar. When you select an image you’ll be able to enter a title and add the image to your stuff. You can go back and edit the title anytime you want just by clicking the title and entering new text.
Posting by Email
You can also email images directly into your CoCollage account from your phone or your email program. We’ve created a unique address just for you to send stuff to. Use the subject line to give your image a title.
You can find your custom email upload address in the sidebar of your Profile and My Stuff pages when you are logged in.
Pulling images from Flickr
You can add the latest 20 images from your Flickr photo stream to your stuff. Enter your Flickr “screen name” (your public name on Flickr, not your sign-in or username) or use the email address you used to join Flickr. Find these on the Edit Profile page. If you check the “auto-upload” box (which is the default setting), new images from your Flickr account will automatically be added to your stuff here a couple of times a day. If you’d like something to show up on the screen faster, you can click the “Grab latest Flickr photos” button in the right sidebar of your Profile or Stuff pages.
Facebook Photos
You can also click the Facebook button in the right sidebar to add images from your Facebook account to CoCollage. When you click the button, you will be prompted to log into Facebook. Don’t worry, we don’t ever see your password – we just pass it on to Facebook. Once you log in, you can browse through your albums and choose the photos you want to add to your CoCollage account.
Messages and Quotes
These are three ways to send text to the screen:
- You can send a quick direct message via the comment bubble coming from your avatar on any page of the site (when logged in). Direct messages show up in the Stream, but are not archived in your My Stuff page.
- You can also send a direct message from your phone via SMS (you need to first add your mobile number to your profile, then text “bedlam” to 41411 to check in. After that, anything you text to 41411 will be posted as a direct message to the screen.)
- To add a Quote (which will remain in your stuff) visit your Profile or My Stuff page and use the “Add a Quote” box in right sidebar.
Commenting and voting
If you see something you like, you can use the website to leave a comment for the owner. You can vote it up (or down, if you don’t like it!). Items with more comments and positive votes are more likely to show up on the display screen — so the more the community interacts, the more the screen reflects it’s tastes.
^ topChecking in
What is “checking in?”
Checking into CoCollage tells the system that you’re in the vicinity of the display screen.
Why check in?
When you check in, a greeting will be displayed on the big screen, and some of your stuff will be shown right away. Your stuff will also get priority on the screen for the next little while. Think of it as a way to tell the room you’ve arrived, and grab the spotlight for a moment.
Cool. Now how do I check in?
We’ve provided a few ways:
- Website: If you log in to the CoCollage website while you’re at Bedlam, you’ll see a big green “I’m Here!” button at the top right next to your user name. Click it to check in!
- Text Message: Text “bedlam” to 41411, and you’ll be checked in. (You’ll need to add your mobile number to your profile.)
However you choose to check in, your stuff will show up on the screen right away, and the website will show a big green “You’re here!” indicator at the top of the page.
Your session will expire after 1 hours by default, but you can always refresh your presence by using any of the the check in methods.
^ topWhy do you ask for my mobile phone number?
If you enter your mobile number in your profile, you can interact with the display from your phone. You can check in by texting “bedlam” to 41411. Once you’ve done that, you can also send direct messages to the screen via SMS – just text your message to 41411, and it will pop up on the display.
^ topWhat is the Stream?
The stream shows the latest items to appear on the big screen. If you see something you like, you can visit the stream to find out who it’s from, comment, rate it, or message the owner. If you’re online away from the display, the stream is a great way to check in on what’s being shown.
^ topWhy do I get email from you?
You will be notified via email when someone comments on your profile, comments on one of your items (or an item you’ve also commented on) or sends you a direct message from your profile. You can turn off notification if you don’t want to get email when people comment on your things. Just edit your profile and uncheck the “Send me email…” box below the email address field.
